Dr Joby Scaria Elappumkal is a UK trained Senior Consultant Neuro-Psychiatrist. He is a Consultant in General Psychiatry with over 15 years of experience in the UK. He gained Super Specialist Qualifications in Neuro-psychiatry and De-addiction and has been working in these highly specialised areas for the last 8 years in UK and India. Dr Joby Scaria relocated to Kerala from UK with an intention to develop super speciality services in these fields.

Dr Joby Scaria is a Senior Consultant Neuro-Psychiatrist, currently working full time for brainworks Neuro-Psychiatry Centre. He serves as a visiting consultant in Indo American Hospital, Vaikom and St Rita’s Hospital, Changanacherry. Dr Joby started his services in Kerala from January 2018 onwards, after obtaining tremendous amount of experience in the field of Psychiatry and Neuro Psychiatry in the UK. He worked for more than 15 years in the UK, his recent role being Senior Consultant in Neuro Psychiatry in Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospital, Manchester UK until December 2017.
Dr Joby completed his basic medical qualification (MBBS) from Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala, India in 2002. He continued his professional journey in the UK, after successfully joining the training programme in the field of Psychiatry. He continued his learning and development in post graduate training from North Western Deanery, Manchester, UK and completed the MRCPsych from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, London, UK. He gained a variety of experience in managing patients with diverse general psychiatric conditions including Psychosis, Depression, Bipolar illness, Anxiety disorders, OCD, Behavioural problems etc.
Dr Joby Scaria completed MSc Psychiatry from the University of Manchester, UK to broaden his knowledge in Neuro Psychiatry skills. As part of the Masters programme, he researched topics in the field of Neuro Psychiatry and obtained permanent membership from the European Huntington’s Disease Society (MEHDN- Neuro Psychiatry) as a recognition of his work. He has published his research projects in the British Journal of Neuro Psychiatry on ‘Clinical Features of Depression in Huntington’s Disease’ and presented in the International Psychiatric Conference held in Barcelona, Spain.
After the completion of Higher Specialist Training in Manchester, Dr Joby obtained CCT (Completion of Consultant Training) from UK in General Psychiatry with endorsement in De-Addiction and Neuro-Psychiatry. He completed MIP (Motivational Interviewing Practitioner) training in De-Addiction Psychiatry, as part of the Higher Specialist Training in the North-western Deanery, Manchester, UK.
Dr Joby Scaria gained vast and variety of psychiatry experience in UK for a period of around 15 years. His most recent position was Senior Consultant in Neuro-Psychiatry and De-Addiction in Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Trust in Manchester, UK. He gained valuable experience in assessing and managing Neuro-Psychiatric conditions including Autism, ADHD, Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease etc.
He returned to India in January 2018 and has been working as Senior Consultant in Neuro-Psychiatry and De-Addiction in St. Rita’s Hospital, Changanacherry and Indo-American Hospital, Vaikom.
